Armenia’s 2021 election results: Civil Contract wins 71 seats
The Civil Contract party won 71 parliamentary seats with 53.94% of the vote. The Hayastan bloc secured 29 seats with 21.09%, while the I Have Honor bloc took seven with 5.22%. These two opposition blocs replaced the previous opposition factions in Armenia’s National Assembly.
On June 27, 2021, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission announced the final results of the snap parliamentary election. Sergey Markedonov, a leading research fellow at MGIMO University under Russia’s Foreign Ministry and editor-in-chief of the journal International Analytics, analyzed the situation facing Yerevan after the war and in the run-up to the vote. In his assessment, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic had survived in a reduced form, its existence had become dependent on Russian peacekeepers, and no negotiations on its status were taking place.
As Markedonov noted, Azerbaijan’s leadership at the time considered the ethno-political conflict resolved and refused to discuss the status of the disputed territory. Baku identified reopening transport links and the region’s socioeconomic rehabilitation as tasks that lay ahead.
