Armenia plans to borrow €140 million to upgrade its water supply and irrigation systems, MIR24 reported on March 4, 2026. The government will cover part of the project's costs with funding from the state budget.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide half of the loan amount. Armenia will receive the other half from the French Development Agency.

The program will be carried out in 2 phases. The first will last 5 years and have a budget of $185 million. Around $250 million is planned for the second phase.

The funding will go toward upgrading water networks, managing irrigation infrastructure and reforming the sector. Reservoirs are not included in the program. The project includes around $25 million in investment in Armenia's rural communities.
