Armenia’s Defense Ministry is proposing to bring recruits into the Armed Forces during the winter draft from January 7 to February 12, 2027, according to aysor.am. The ministry has put the draft decision out for public discussion, so the dates remain a proposal.
Draft campaign proposed to begin on November 16, 2026
According to a description of the proposal on auroranews.am, the winter draft campaign would run from November 16, 2026, through February 12, 2027, inclusive. Service members who have completed their service would be discharged into the reserve between January 7 and 31, 2027.
Who would be called up for compulsory military service
The proposal covers male citizens who turn 18 or whose deferment from compulsory military service expires by December 31, 2026, inclusive. It also covers the men specified in Clause 1.1 of Article 19 of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel. Under Part 1 of Article 19.1 of the same law, those eligible for the draft include women who applied to undertake compulsory military service voluntarily before October 1, 2026.
According to aysor.am, the government makes the decision to call up rank-and-file personnel for compulsory military service. Part 4 of Article 19 of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel requires a draft to be held at least twice a year.
Medical examinations and the work of Armenia’s draft commissions
The description of the proposal on auroranews.am says referrals for citizens’ health examinations and the submission of findings to the Central Medical Commission must be completed by February 8, 2027, inclusive. The proposal assigns the Defense Ministry, together with the Health Ministry, responsibility for preparing the draft, examining citizens’ health, conducting medical assessments and staffing the Armed Forces.
A Republican Draft Commission, regional draft commissions and a city commission in Yerevan are planned to organize the draft. They would operate under the leadership of the relevant government bodies. Armenia’s defense minister would head the Republican Draft Commission, regional governors would head the regional commissions, and Yerevan’s first deputy mayor would head the city commission.
The proposal is available on e-draft.am. Under the proposal, the decision would take effect the day after its official publication.
