Pashinyan leaves open possibility of snap elections to adopt a new Armenian constitution
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has not ruled out early parliamentary elections to speed up the adoption of a new constitution, Vestnik Kavkaza reported on October 22, 2026. The prime minister was discussing a possible government decision, not a vote that had already been scheduled.
Pashinyan also discussed his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which took place on August 31 in Bishkek. The prime minister said he had told Aliyev that Baku’s repeated references to Armenia’s constitution were viewed negatively in Yerevan.
According to Pashinyan, the Azerbaijani side acknowledged in response that Armenia’s constitution was an internal matter in which no one had the right to interfere. At the same time, the prime minister said, he was reminded of Azerbaijan’s political position that a peace treaty with Armenia could be signed only after its constitution was amended.
