Azimuth plane returns to Yerevan after emergency signal
A plane operated by Russian airline Azimuth flying from Yerevan to Mineralnye Vody transmitted an emergency signal on October 29 and returned to the Armenian capital’s airport. TASS reported the incident the same day, citing a source in air traffic control services.
According to Flightradar data cited by the agency, the plane transmitted the signal about 20 minutes after takeoff. Ostorozhno, Novosti reported that flight A4 6030 was operated by a Superjet. The aircraft transmitted code 7700, indicating an emergency.
The plane circled over Yerevan before returning. More than 9,000 people tracked its flight on Flightradar. In an updated report, Ostorozhno, Novosti said the aircraft had landed safely at 14:24.
Initial estimates of the number of people on board varied. According to Baza’s initial information, there may have been around 108 people on the plane. Kommersant, citing Zvezda, reported approximately 100 people.
Azimuth’s representative in Armenia attributed the return to problems with the air conditioning system, TASS reported. In the airline representative’s preliminary assessment, there was no serious problem, but the aircraft will undergo a thorough inspection to determine the cause. Azimuth is preparing a replacement aircraft to take the passengers to Mineralnye Vody.
