Supporters of Samvel Karapetyan gathered outside Armenia’s Investigative Committee, TASS reported. The detained leader of the opposition Strong Armenia party was brought there in connection with a case involving damage to Electric Networks of Armenia.
The case concerns abuse of office in the private sector and damage to the company, which belongs to Karapetyan. A total of 36 people have been detained in the case.
The Investigative Committee has asked the court to remand Karapetyan and 8 others in custody. A court in Armenia is expected to decide shortly what pretrial restrictions to impose on the politician.
