A US-Armenian company being set up will provide security along the entire “Trump route”, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Alexei Shevtsov said. Border and customs controls, however, will remain with the Armenian side. Yerevan holds a 26% stake, he said, while Armenia does not have a controlling interest. Russia’s Security Council said the route was being used to create a “state within a state” in Armenia.
Shevtsov suggested that American private military companies, intelligence facilities and other infrastructure could be established in Armenia. He linked that scenario to US control of the “Trump route”. In his assessment, this “naturally calls into question the security of the entire route and the transportation of goods along it”.
Shevtsov said the US would be able to ban cargo shipments along the “Trump route” in Armenia as a sanctions measure.
